Theus Wealth Advisors

Who we serve / Business owners

Your business built the wealth. Let's plan for what's next.

Retirement plans, succession, and an eventual exit — planned together with the business you've spent years building.

For many business owners, the company is the largest asset and the retirement plan rolled into one. We help you separate personal and business financial decisions where it matters, and coordinate them where it counts — so growing the business and building personal wealth move forward together.

Business owners often come to us when

  • Most of your net worth is tied up in a business that isn't easy to diversify
  • You don't have a retirement plan in place for yourself or your employees
  • A sale, succession, or partner buyout is somewhere on the horizon
  • Business and personal finances have never been fully separated
  • Cash flow feels strong but there's no clear personal savings strategy
  • You want a plan for stepping back without disrupting the business

01

Retirement plan design

SEP IRAs, SIMPLE IRAs, solo 401(k)s, and other options are compared against your income, employees, and goals, so you and your team are both covered without overpaying in fees.

02

Separating business and personal wealth

We help you build a personal financial plan and investment strategy that doesn't depend entirely on your business performing well.

03

Succession and exit planning

Whether you're planning to sell, pass the business to family, or transition to a partner, we help you understand timing, valuation basics, and what the proceeds need to fund.

04

Tax-aware business decisions

Entity structure, retirement contributions, and the timing of major decisions are reviewed with your tax professional so business choices support your personal plan too.

05

Buy-sell and partner agreements

We review how existing agreements are funded and what would actually happen — financially — if you, or a partner, needed to exit unexpectedly.

06

Life after the business

We help translate a business sale or transition into a retirement income plan, so the payoff supports the life you want next.

Questions we hear

Frequently asked
questions.

Do I need a retirement plan if I'm self-employed?
Yes — and you likely have access to more options than an employee would, including SEP IRAs, solo 401(k)s, and cash balance plans. We help you choose based on your income and whether you have employees.
How do you value my business for planning purposes?
We don't replace a formal business valuation, but we help you understand rough ranges and how a sale or transition would translate into retirement income, working alongside a valuation professional when needed.
I don't have a succession plan yet. Where do we start?
We start with your timeline and goals — family succession, partner buyout, or outside sale all lead to different planning steps, and we help you map the one that fits.
Should I keep reinvesting in the business or start building outside savings?
Usually some of both. We help you set a target for personal savings outside the business so your financial security isn't entirely tied to one asset.
Do you work with my CPA and attorney?
Yes. Entity structure, retirement plan design, and succession documents work best when your advisor, CPA, and attorney are coordinated, and we make that coordination happen.
What happens to my retirement plan if I sell the business?
We plan for that ahead of time — how sale proceeds convert into income, what happens to any business retirement plan, and how the timing affects your taxes.
